The Women in Mathematics Day Ireland (WIMDI) was celebrated on 29th August, 2018 in UCD. The aim of the conference is to advance gender equity in the mathematical sciences in Ireland, while also being a forum to encourage, support, and inspire women at all stages of their education and careers. Talks and poster presentations were given by women and men from both academia and industry.
In her opening speech, Minister Mitchell O’Connor praised the success of the “ Irish teams that competed in the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad”. Minister Mitchell O’Connor congratulated the group’s dedication and described them as “an inspiration to peers and everyone here today.”
There were presentations on the Maths Olympiads by former EGMO participants Anna Mustata and Laura Cosgrave, to a diverse audience with girls from St Mark's Community School, maths students and lecturers from around the country. The enjoyment of the Maths Olympiad girls was palpable.
